【摘要】:TheintentofthisguideistoidentifycharacteristicsthataCSICshallpossess.ItisnotexpectedthattheCSICwillbeusedalonetoprovidetheentirescopeofrequiredimmobilization.Clinicalsituationsmayrequiredifferingcombinationsofdevicesforadequatetotalspinalimmobilization.ACSICmaybeoneofthedevices.Variousconfigurationsorsizes,orboth,mayberequiredtoaccommodatevariationamongstindividuals.TheCSICshallbeabletobeusedbythepractitionerinanergonomicallysoundmanner.TheCSICisintendedtoprovidestabilization,nottraction,andshallnotbeusedtoapplytraction.1.1Thisguideestablishesminimumstandardsfordevices,designatedhereascervicalspineimmobilizationcollar(s)(CSIC),commonlyreferredtoascervicalcollars.TheCSICisusedastheinitialdeviceforimmobilizationofthecervicalspine,ofapatientbyemergencymedicalservicepersonnel.1.2ThisguidedoesnotidentifyspecificdegreesoflimitationofmotionachievedbyplacementofaCSIConapatient.Definitiverequirementsforimmobilizationofthespine,and,inparticular,thedegreeoflimitationassociatedwiththeuseofaCSIC,havenotbeenestablishedinthemedicalliterature.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
